Writing: This week, we will practice the all important work of becoming one's own job captain. We will be celebrating our independence as writers and reflecting on all that we have learned in our personal narrative unit as we draft new stories. We will also practice a new way of drafting stories as we relive specific experiences important in our lives. This will make our writing intense and real. We will have our Personal Narrative timed writing test on Tuesday, September 24th. Please study the review sheet that was sent home! Grammar and Conventions: This week, we will discuss using an editing checklist. Word Study: This week, we will continue our study of syllables. We will focus on open syllables. MathThis week in math we will be working on addition and subtraction within word problems. Your child will practice solving one and two step word problems as well as be able to identify what operation to use when solving these word problems. When solving word problems your child will be able to comprehend if the problems is building up to find a total (addition) or breaking down into smaller parts (subtraction). Homework: Our Addition, Subtraction, and Sounding Test Review was sent home Monday and will be due Friday, September 27th. Please make sure that your child is reviewing these concepts and using their math notebook in order to help them solve problems. Fluency: Please encourage your child to study the following multiplication facts. X2, X10, X1, X0. You can find these facts in your student’s math notebook behind the fluency tab.
